Hiring Process for Civilians
All civilian applicants must apply online to be considered for a position. The hiring department will contact qualified applicants to schedule interviews. If you are selected to continue with the hiring process, your name will be forwarded to Applicant Processing for further screening. Applicant Processing will then contact you to set up the following appointments:
First Appointment with Applicant Processing:
Applicant Processing will contact you to bring in the following original documents:
Every employee, civilian or sworn, that works within the Adult Detention Center is screened for Tuberculosis (TB). If the position you are being considered for is within the Adult Detention Center, you will need to have a TB screening. If a TB test is required your initial appointment with Applicant Processing will need to be on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday in order for you to return for the TB test reading 48 hours later.
During your initial appointment with Applicant Processing, the following will be completed:

Applicant Processing will contact you to bring in the following original documents:
- Texas driver's license
- Proof of eligibility to work in the US (US Passport, Birth Certificate, Social Security Card or Permanent Resident Card)
- Proof of education: Official sealed transcripts from either High School or College
- DD214 if applicable

If the position you are being considered for is within the Adult Detention Center, you will need to have a TB screening. If a TB test is required your initial appointment with Applicant Processing will need to be on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday in order for you to return for the TB test reading 48 hours later.
During your initial appointment with Applicant Processing, the following will be completed:
- A Conditional Offer of Employment specifying your position and steps remaining in your screening process
- An Authorization for Release of Personal Information
- Copies will be made of your original documents that were requested (driver's license, proof of eligibility to work in the US, proof of education, DD214)
- You will be given a copy of the Civilian Personal History Statement. Applicant Processing will review this document with you verifying you understand what needs to be completed. You will take the document with you to complete.
- A credit report will need to be obtained and submitted. The Civilian Personal History Statement includes instructions on where to get the credit report and how it needs to be submitted.
- You will be given a FAST Pass to set up an appointment for fingerprints.
- A TB test will be done, if applicable for the position
Second Appointment with Applicant Processing
If you received a TB test, you will need to return 2 days (48 hours) after your first appointment. If you did not receive a TB test, you will need to return your completed Personal History Statement within 1 week from your initial appointment. During this second appointment, the following items will be completed:
Background Investigation
After your completed Personal History Statement has been returned, Applicant Processing will begin your background investigation. In the event a record does appear on your fingerprint results, you will need to bring in disposition paperwork from the court regarding each charge. Civilians are held to the same standards as our officers in regard to prior charges. Civilians may not have been convicted nor received deferred adjudication for a Felony or Class A misdemeanor. Any Class B convictions or deferred adjudications must be from 10 years ago or longer. Any non-traffic Class C convictions or deferred adjudications must be from 3 years ago or longer. Civilians may never have been convicted of or placed on community supervision for any offense involving family violence.
Once your background investigation has been cleared, you will be notified by Applicant Processing. You will then be scheduled for a wellness exam, and a psychological exam if applicable to your position. You will be advised of the proper time to submit a two weeks' notice for your current employer.
If you received a TB test, you will need to return 2 days (48 hours) after your first appointment. During this second appointment, the following items will be completed:
- Applicant Processing will review your completed Personal History Statement and credit report, addressing any questions or concerns
- TB test reading
Background Investigation
After your completed Personal History Statement has been returned, Applicant Processing will begin your background investigation.
