Bexar County Sheriff's Office Patrol and Special Operations Division
As a patrol deputy for the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, you are the only representative of the BCSO most of the public will ever see. Patrol deputies cover the county in 16 districts in unincorporated Bexar County. Their main functions are:
- Answering calls for service
- Enforcing traffic laws and apprehending those who commit crime
- Patrolling neighborhoods and businesses
- Booking and processing arrests, appearing in court, providing warrant service and writing reports
The Bexar County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division
The Homicide Unit - Includes specially selected, highly skilled investigators with many years of experience in investigations and law enforcement. The Homicide Unit includes the Family Violence Unit. The investigators with the Family Violence Unit are proactive and take pride in making sure victims of family violence get the attention and resources they deserve. This special unit educates, provides resource information and domestic violence awareness to the citizens of Bexar County.
Sheriff's Habitual Offender Team (SHOT) - This team is undercover law enforcement officers who conduct covert surveillance operations to expose criminal activity. SHOT focuses on property crime and targets criminal organizations and habitual offenders. SHOT's mission is to apply proactive means to infiltrate and disrupt criminal organizations that engage in multiple property crimes committed by career criminals and habitual offenders.
Sex Offender Registration - The Sex Offender Registration Unit registers, maintains, and verifies sex offenders residing in unincorporated Bexar County. Sex Offender Registration is important for our community to assure families are safe.
Narcotics / Vice - The Narcotics / Vice Unit conducts investigations based on citizen complaints, anonymous tips, and confidential informants. Investigations include narcotic, gambling, prostitution, and human trafficking cases.

Judicial & Court Services Division
Their are multiple components in Judicial Services.
The Court Services Section's mission is to provide professional security and support services to the courts of Bexar County. Five operational sections make up the Division:
Judicial Services Sections: The Fugitive Apprehension Unit - These deputies locate and capture individuals who have been arrested and have failed to show up for court or have fled. |
The Extraditions Unit - Travels out of Bexar County to bring back wanted offenders. Available databases are researched for these wanted offenders.
The Civil Process Unit - The Civil Process Unit specializes in serving legal documents throughout the county, conducts evictions, and enforces orders of the court. Civil deputies are also responsible for carrying out court orders for adults and children. Both these situations can be emotionally charged and have a high propensity for violence.
Court Services Sections: Justice Center and Courthouse Operations - The Justice Center provides security and support to all courts, elected officials offices, and county offices located in the Court Services Complex. Court Services serves more than 50 court rooms, providing courthouse security, operating inmate holdover, and facilitating inmate transportation to and from the courts and the Adult Detention Center. Courthouse operations also includes a satellite booking function for nonviolent offenders allowing defendants who have active warrants to be booked, processed, and released without being transported to the county jail.
Inmate Transport / Screening Stations - The Inmate Transport deputies operate two full-sized passenger buses, two passenger vans, a van for individuals with disabilities and a patrol car to transport inmates from the Bexar County Jail to the Court Services Complex. The deputies also transport to the Texas Department of Corrections on a weekly basis. The screening stations are in place for all public entrances into the Court Service Complex screening the public and any packages entering the facilities. The screening process is intended to detect and intercept weapons and other prohibited items that individuals attempt to bring into the complex.
Mental Health Unit - A nationally recognized unit, these crisis intervention trained deputies move mental health consumers on court-ordered transports. These deputies have a wide range of experience that assists them to channel citizens who suffer from mental illness to local mental health providers. Working hand-in-hand with several mental health community providers they educate the community and other local law enforcement agencies on the topic of crisis intervention.
Emergency Response Team - The Emergency Response Team (ERT) responds to extraordinary events beyond the response capabilities of most individual deputies assigned to this section. This group of highly trained and dedicated Court Services deputies responds to hostage emergency situations, barricaded gunman, active shooter incidents, crowd control and/or civil unrest situation anywhere in the Downtown Court Services Complex Area. The team also provides dignitary protection to VIP's, courtroom security in high-profile or highly sensitive trials and provides prisoner escort for high-risk defendants.
